Wherever you plant us, we grow!
Wherever you plant us, we grow!
We are a Canadian/American couple with a love for travel and the outdoors that we have passed down to our three children, as well our students from across the globe. We have lived and worked in Germany, Czech Republic, Turkey and Tanzania. Our oldest two are in university in Canada, and we are now a compact family of three!

No matter where we live the world, we are blessed to call the shores of the Bay of Fundy home.

Community
Community
We are great believers in the power of community. For example, depicted here, students raised money for charity by auctioning off the chance to throw us in the pool. No matter the cause, we are always ready to jump in the deep end to support our school and broader community.

Integrating Cultures
Integrating Cultures
We have learned from every culture we have lived in and when we travel to new lands we continue to be ambassadors for those who shared their homes with us in the past. Kate organised volunteers in the art room to help make dolmas for Iraqi cultural night. Turks, Lebanese, Iraqis, Iranians, and Salvadoreans came together to compare the many variations of this dish as it exists across cultures. Together we made dolma for over 100 people.

Lifelong Learners
Lifelong Learners
We love learning from our students as much as being their teachers. We work hard to maintain an open dialogue where students feel they can share and express opinions and ideas. We are proud that they are independent learners when they move on to their next challenge, and flattered when they reach out to say hello.

Learning in all venues

On our first visit to Tanzania, we led students up Kilimanjaro and taught in a Maasai school. Twenty years later, we are still exploring. Whether it is hikes up mountains or teaching students to develop and maintain sustainable agricultural practices, we are committed to teaching through experiential and service learning projects. Together with students, we both learn from our local host culture and try to give back as well.
